It's one of the industry's most competitive segments, and that means you'll find many good luxury small SUVs to choose from. Naturally, it makes sense to consider world-renowned German engineering, and perhaps no other name better defines this acclaim than Mercedes-Benz. The latest 2021 GLC small luxury SUV is a great example of why the name is ubiquitous with quality and prestige. It's generously equipped with comfort and convenience while also providing an uncommonly engaging driving experience. So, how does the new Mercedes-Benz GLC compare to the new BMW X3? While they're similar in many regards, perhaps the most noticeable difference is in all the standard features you get from Mercedes-Benz that cost extra as options in the BMW. Discover more below.
The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3 enter the market with nearly the same MSRP, so you might expect that they are roughly equally equipped. At least, that's what we thought. Then, we started looking at the standard features for both models and were surprised to see just how much the folks over at BMW think should come only with additional cost in a luxury car segment.
For example, heated seats with power lumbar support are standard in every new 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC, but you'll have to pay extra for this level of comfort in the new BMW X3. The same is true of remote start, passive entry, and even the sunroof. And, there are even more examples of how this new, luxurious small SUV from Mercedes-Benz provides much more for your money than its rival from BMW.
You may already know that today's luxury vehicles come with impressive technology that not only connects your smartphone to the vehicle, but also keeps you connected. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3 offer some of the most advanced information and entertainment technology. However, the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system takes your connection to the vehicle and world beyond to a new level.
The latest MBUX represents a level of innovation that keeps Mercedes-Benz at the top of the industry by combining digital, touch-sensitive displays with a new level of voice control. Perhaps you've tried other voice recognition technologies and came away less than impressed. Well, we'd like to introduce you to the next generation of automotive technology. It's simply ahead of what you'll find in the new BMW X3.
On paper, it may seem like the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3 offer a similar driving experience. However, a short time behind the wheel reveals that this just isn't the case. Sure, the difference between the 255 horsepower generated by the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the 248 horsepower from the BMW X3 doesn't seem like much. They each reach 60 MPH from a standstill in virtually the same time. So, why do these two small luxury SUVs feel so different from behind the wheel?
It has a little to do with how the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission in the Mercedes-Benz GLC compares to the 8-speed automatic in the BMW X3. We found the GLC to be a bit smoother, but this is only another minor thing when compared to the ride quality and handling. You see, every new Mercedes-Benz GLC is equipped with advanced selective damping suspension. It reads the road and responds in near real time by adjusting each individual shock absorber. The result is impressive comfort that doesn't compromise feedback and handling at the wheel. BMW does offer a similar suspension technology, but it will cost significantly more as an upgrade.
We're pleased to report that each of these luxury SUVs have earned respectable safety scores from independent industry authorities. Though, where the engineers at Mercedes-Benz are concerned, industry standards are only a baseline from which they begin building a safety system. When you compare the latest GLC to the BMW X3, it becomes clear why Mercedes-Benz continues to be revered as an industry leader. Standard Active Parking Assistant is a game changer when it comes to parking in tight spots no matter which Mercedes-Benz GLC you choose. A similar system can be had on the small SUV from BMW, but it'll cost more as an upgrade.
What's more, advanced technologies like ATTENTION ASSIST®, Crosswind Assist, and PRESAFE® Sound represent improved safety that you just can't get in a new BMW X3. To learn more about these technologies and many more, we invite you to visit with us at Mercedes-Benz of Temecula where we proudly serve customers from Murrieta, Menifee, and beyond.

With a starting MSRP of just $43,200, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC is a great choice that provides many more features, comforts, and conveniences than the BMW X3.
